Parnells Pool Club

Parnells Pool Club

Pool has been traditionally played in the club for well in excess of 15 years. In the old clubhouse the pool table was located in the bar and many of the members enjoyed the banter, playing for fun and watching our teams compete in the various leagues. In the new clubhouse we have two tables located at the end of the restaurant area in a separate room.

We currently have three teams representing the club. We have two teams competing in the Super League, one in the Premier Division and one in Division 1. This league contains teams based in the in the North and South side of the city and is played under Blackball rules.

Our third team competes in the Premier Division of the Northside League. The league contains teams from the North side of the city and clubs are generally are no more than 3 Km from the clubhouse. We currently are the holders of the John Brady Cup in this league. The rules for this league are specific to the league and generally follow the old 8 ball rules.

The Super League commences at the end of September and the Northside League at the end of October. We will be looking for new players for these teams. To play for a team you need to commit yourself to playing once a week for approximately 24 weeks from the commencement of the league. Our home night for the Super League is Wednesday for the Premier Division and Monday for the Division 1 team. The Northside team home night is Tuesday.

Prior to the commencement we will be running a competition using Northside rules in memory of Noel Holland who was very active with pool teams in the club. Advertisements will be placed on the notice board in the club giving details about the event and how to enter.

On the international front we have a number of players who currently will represent Ireland at the upcoming Nations Cup which will be held in the Glen Eagles Hotel in Killarney in September 2015. Teams from Nth. Ireland, England, Scotland, Wales, Libya, Catalonia, Gibraltar, Ireland, Italy and Gibraltar will compete. The event will hold internationals at A and B levels for Masters, Senior’s, Men’s, Ladies. Under 23’s.

Parnells will have the following players competing in the tournament

* Masters A Brendan Hinchy

* Men’s B1 Robbie Murphy (Capt.), Aidan Nolan, Paddy Murphy, Des O’Dea

* Senior B1 Paul Wright (Capt.), Martin Keogh, Anthony Connaughton

* Senior B2 Karl Craig (Capt.), Fran Rogers, Kevin Byrne.

We wish all the above players the best of luck in the tournament. We would also like to wish Kevin Byrne the best in his role as Chairperson to the European Blackball Association (EBA) who are running this event.

Call Kevin Byrne 0857144812 for further details or drop into club any evening for a game of Pool.

Update on 2015/2016 Pool Season

Northside League

The team plays in the Premier Division of this league and are currently lying second in the league behind Trinity Blue. The start of the season was very poor where we just won one of our first four matches and were narrowly beaten 5 – 4 in the other three matches. This has been turned around and we won the last 4 matches. Hopefully we will continue the recent good form we currently are showing. The league is only half way and you can monitor our performance at the web site

John Brady Cup

We currently are the holders of this Cup when we beat Innisfails Blue in the Cup final last year. We are currently in the semi-final of this competition awaiting the result of the match between Irene and Handball Blue.

Super League Premier Division

Similar to our Northside team we had a very poor start to the season, in the first third of the season we won 3 lost 2 and drew 1 match. In the second third we have won 3 and drawn 3. We are currently lying 4th, a point behind the joint second teams and 7 points behind the leaders The Metzo. The performance of our teams can be monitored on the web site .

Super League Division 1

This league is turning out to be a very competitive league. The league started with 14 teams but unfortunately two teams dropped out. We are currently lying 3rd in the Division , 1 point off second and 3 points off 1st. We have won 9, drawn 1 and lost 4 matches.  Our team is playing very well and hopefully our good form will continue for the rest of the season.

Super League Cup Competition

The cup competition involves teams from all Divisions. Our premier team will meet The Shilling Division 1 side in the last 16 and our Division 1 side will meet Lucan Pitch & Putt Premier Division side. We wish both sides the best of luck.

International Competitions

The next international fixture is the European Championships and we have a number of players playing at various levels in this tournament.  This tournament will be held in The Spa, Bridlington, UK starting on 10th April and ending on the 15th April. Live streaming of this tournament will be available for some of the matches at web site . We would like to extend our best wishes to all the Irish teams competing and especially to our own players.
