Dublin Intermediate Club Championship Final
FT Parnells 1-14 Clontarf 1-05

As Vicki Ronning, Captain of Parnells, lifted the Intermediate cup aloft a mighty cheer and huge applause echoed around the stadium as the Parnells supporters in the ground welcomed the opportunity to finally enjoy and celebrate championship success.

Parnells had endured heartbreak in four separate finals between 2005 and 2014 but they have now finally erased those painful memories with a 1-14 to 1-05 victory over Clontarf.

The first half was a close fought contest as Parnells try as they might could not shake off a determined Clontarf side.

Parnells legend Lindsay Peat got the opening score of the game. She tagged on a second with a well converted free. Full forward Sinead Cumiskey added to the Parnell's tally with another free to leave the Coolock side 3 points ahead with 5 minutes gone on the clock.

The industrious corner forward Helen Cliffe registered Clontarf's opening score of the final in the 6th minute when she converted a free from just within the 20 metre line.

Clontarf started to settle into the game and began to run at the Parnells defence. Full forward Fiona Coughlan, who is better known for her exploits on the Rugby field, was unlucky to see her thundering shot hit the butt of the post only for the ball to land into a Parnells defender's hands.

In the 10th minute Clontarf did raise the green flag when Helen Cliffe found the back of the Parnell's net to bring the sides level.

The game hit a bit of a stalemate in the final quarter of the first half as both sides exchanged a number of wides and some drop shots before Parnells fianlly got back on the score sheet via a Sinead Cumiskey free. Parnells took a slender lead into the dressing room at half time as the score board read Parnells 0-05 Clontarf 1-01.

Clontarf introduced two subs at half time with Aoibhe Bell replacing full forward Fiona Coughlan and Sarah Fagan coming on for Sorcha McDonagh.

But it was Parnells who sprung to life on the restart with a Katie Black point but the decisive score of the game came in the 31st minute when Sinead Cumiskey blasted her shot to the back of the Clontarf net. Within a blick of a eye Parnells were now suddenly 5 points clear of their neighbours Clontarf.

Parnells continued to press home with Lindsay Peat, Aoife McGrath and Sinead Cumiskey continuing to add on scores to their sides tally.

Slainey Murray continued to battle hard for Clontarf and was rewarded with two fine points while Sarah McCaffrey tapped over a free. Dublin U14 captain of 2014 Sarah Fagan also got in on the scoring action for Clontarf with a fine point.

In the end Parnell's experenice combined with the performances of Sinead Cumiskey, Lindsay Peat, Katie Black and Player of the Match Leona Corr was the difference between the two teams as the girls from Coolock ran out worthy winners with 9 points to spare.

Tamara Tarr, Aine Ní Shuilleabhain, Vicki Ronning, Sarah Lynam, Leona Corr, Lydia Phelan, Lianna Harte, Lydia Phelan, Lianna Harte, Ciara Walsh, Katie Black, Chloe Lawless, Laura Flannery, Aoife McGrath, Lindsay Peat, Sinead Cumiskey, Carla Moran

Sinead Cumiskey 1-07 (3f), Lindsay Peat 0-04 (1f), Katie Black, Aoife McGrath, Jessica Darby 0-01 each

Summary principles of GAA Concussion Management Guidelines

Published: 13 May 2014

concussionIt is vital that we are all aware of the Signs and Symptoms:

Contrary to popular belief, most concussion injuries occur without a loss of consciousness and so it is important to recognise the other signs and symptoms of concussion.  A symptom is something a player will feel whilst a sign is something a team-mate or coach will notice.
